    而现在这条后防的每一位成员，上赛季的个人失误也都是一抓一把，不过在新助教鲍尔德的强化训练之下，枪手本赛季在防守方面的提高立竿见影。本土小将吉布斯在左后卫的主力位置上挤掉桑托斯已经让一些媒体颇感意外。而仍然缺乏大赛经验的詹金森现在的状态也让人称奇，拥有英格兰和芬兰双重国籍的这名小将上轮在安菲尔德开场明显因为情绪紧张而频频横传失误，但是稳住情绪之后的发挥让人眼前一亮。
    眼下这条防线人员方面的变数在于门将和右后卫位置，什琴斯尼的这次失误让前两场比赛零封对手的曼诺内又看到了希望，意大利人原本考虑以租借方式去其他球队寻找比赛机会，但是温格赛后却暗示意大利人，主力门将未必没戏：“曼诺内现在距离留队非常非常接近，他和什琴斯尼将会为第一门将展开争夺！”而如果选择轮换使用两名年轻门将的话，兵工厂的球门也将会面临风险。至于右后卫位置，萨尼亚的伤愈归队意味着詹金森将重归替补身份，不过鉴于法国人的续约问题悬而未决，温格本赛季最终选择大力提拔詹金森并不是没有可能。
